SAVILE ROW

(posted by Payman)

Remember how excited you used to get when you were in school, and you'd show up to class only to find a blue TV screen, and you knew it was movie day? I want to bring that sense of excitement to the blog today. Yes, it's movie day...

THE FARINELLI'S GUIDE TO COOKOUTS

(posted by Payman)

If you've been reading our blog, you've probably noticed an abundance of phrases like "as the weather gets warmer" and "the mercury is climbing." For those of you who sit indoors all day and read the blog (thank you), this is because it's getting hotter outside. With hot weather comes cookout season, that magical time of the year filled with grilling, fun in the sun, and drinking copious amounts of alcohol until your angry-drunk side comes out, and you start cursing out the chef for your steak being dry, when in actuality, you yourself were the chef, and the steak wasn't that dry at all, you're just an asshole. We're here make sure you avoid this, and other cookout faux pas...

THE MUSTACHE TAX BREAK

(posted by Payman)

I tried to grow a mustache once. It took one entire month and the results were disturbing. I thought it would make me cooler, but mostly, people just found it off-putting. The only real benefit was that I would eventually name my experimental rock album The Mustache Experience, which wasn't really worth the alienation I faced whilst rocking the 'stache; however, if the St. Louis-based American Mustache Institute ("the world's only facial hair advocacy and research organization") has their way, those who choose to enjoy the mustached American lifestyle could see substantial benefits...

INTERVIEW WITH UNCLE PETE

(posted by Payman)

I've never been to Boston. I don't know what it's like up there. Everything I think I know about Boston, I learned from watching The Departed and Fever Pitch. Just kidding. You would literally have to put a gun to my head to make me watch a movie where Jimmy Fallon is the lead; but The Departed led me to believe that Boston might be the kind of place where someone might put a gun to your head and make you watch terrible movies. That, plus what I imagine to be frigid weather, has turned me off heading up to Red Sox country, but there's one place that's made me decide that I must plan a trip north very soon. That place is Uncle Pete's...

WOLF VS. GOAT SHIRTING SNEAK PEEK

(posted by Payman)

It's Monday, and it's highly likely you're having a day that is not as nice as mine. While you're stuck in some dimly lit office listening to your coworkers tap away on their keyboards, I'm sitting in the sun, drinking a Capri Sun (it's taken twenty-two years, but I've finally mastered getting the straw in the damn pouch without it going straight through and spilling Pacific Cooler everywhere), and listening to Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA." I know you're probably jealous, and I can't blame you, but if it makes your day any better, I'm offering a sneak peek at Wolf vs. Goat's 2010 spring shirting collection...

BAXTER FINLEY: WOLF VS. GOAT

(posted by Payman)

Alan Jackson once said "it's 5 o'clock somewhere." I like to think that while the mercury is pushing 90 in The District these days, it's still freezing somewhere. With that in mind, our friends at Baxter recently did a review of the Wolf vs. Goat pea coats for their blog...

COMING SOON: THE OFFICIAL WOLF VS. GOAT WEBSITE

(posted by Payman)

I have a saying: nothing is official until it's Facebook official. What does that mean? It means until you have your own web page (which is essentially what a Facebook page is-a personal web page), you don't exist in real life. You are a shadow moving about us human beings. This is what the technology age has brought us to-you now need a website to validate your existence.

That being said, it is with great excitement and pride that we announce the upcoming launch of the official Wolf vs. Goat website!

HOW TO ENJOY A NICE SPRING DAY

(posted by Payman)

It's really nice out today in D.C. Really, really nice. Like most of the city's residents, I am spending my day behind a computer screen. Fun, right? No, actually, not fun at all. I love spring, and there are several other things I would rather be doing today than blogging, but here I am. Luckily, I know all the steps necessary to enjoy a beautiful spring day like today, so even if I can't right now, here's how you can:

WOLF VS. GOAT CHINOS: EARLY REVIEWS

(posted by Payman)

The Wolf vs. Goat chinos have been online for about  two days now, and thus far, the response has  been nothing but positive, and rightfully so! Of course I like them, I want you to buy them so I can still have a job, but don't take my word for it. A couple of our customers in Baltimore were the first to receive them, and here's what they had to say:

SNEAK PEEK: WOLF VS. GOAT CHINOS (PART 3)

(posted by Payman)

We're pretty excited for the launch of the Wolf vs. Goat chinos, which have arrived, and will be going up on ShopFarinellis.com later this week. In the meantime, I thought I would give you guys another teaser of what is to come, especially considering the number of questions I got after posting the five colorways (click here if you missed that post). The fabric samples I posted back then were before the wash treatment they were to go through prior to going into production, and the "espresso" fabric, post-treatment, is definitely one of my favorites. Take a look at some of these pictures of Mauro rocking the Wolf vs. Goat Chino in Espresso:

CUSTOM SUITS BY WOLF VS. GOAT

(posted by Payman)

If you subscribe to UrbanDaddy DC, and I should hope that you all are subscribing to it, because I told you to do so a couple days ago, then you probably got a nice e-mail from them today letting you know that Wolf vs. Goat is now doing custom suiting! Check out the article below:

This is exciting news for locals, because DC is a suit-wearing town if I've ever seen one. This city is seriously crawling with suits, and a lot of them are ill-fitting. I don't know what the people at whatever department store you are shopping at are telling you, but no, you don't look good in that suit. Your suit is probably the one thing in your closet that must fit spot-on. With sweaters or buttondowns you might be able to get away with sizing up or down, but with a suit, it either fits or it doesn't; when it does, you look as cool as a cucumber, when it doesn't, you look like a moron.

I'm sure there is someone wearing a poorly-fitted suit, reading this blog post at work, crying, because I just called them a moron. First of all, you need to work on your confidence. If you cry like a baby every time someone says something about you, it doesn't matter how well your suit fits, people will always find you a little off-putting. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I want to let you know that it's not entirely your fault. How can you be expected to buy a razor-sharp suit off the rack when half of those suits were patterned off some model? Chances are you aren't a model. I am a model, but I'm also a lot of things you aren't. You don't need a suit cut to fit a model, you need a suit that's cut to fit someone like you-the used car salesmen, the burly nightclub bouncer, the fashion blogger who will probably get fired soon for alienating people.

Thank goodness for Wolf vs. Goat, who takes the guesswork out of sizing a suit. Not only will they measure you so that you get a suit that fits like a glove, they'll feed you, get you drunk, and set you up with expert Savile Row tailors! Now that's full service. I'll be picking one of these suits up to wear to interviews after I inevitably get fired from this job...

SNEAK PEEK: WOLF VS. GOAT CHINOS (PART 2)

(posted by pai)

Yesterday (please note I have made the word "yesterday" a clickable link for those who are too lazy to scroll down one blog post) we gave you a sneak peek at the different colorways the much-anticipated Wolf vs. Goat chinos will be available in. Today is part two (the re-re-remix) of the yesterday's blog post. Today, we'll be showing you actual fit pics of the chino! (Jersey Shore fist pump).

Mauro, the model, shows off the chinos for us here:

As you can see, the Wolf vs. Goat chinos are extremely versatile. They can be worn while staring into the sun with your arms crossed, while standing casually with your hands in your pockets, while sitting spread-eagle on a keg of Natural Light, or even while lifting heavy objects/stealing the aforementioned keg.

Mauro is wearing a sz. 32 charcoal chino. The charcoal is washed and treated (hence the lighter looking color), which you didn't really see in the dip cards we showed yesterday. The fit is slim but not too slim with a mid-low rise. All around, I'd say the Wolf and the Goat nailed it.

In the meantime, if you've got a big time craving for some Wolf vs. Goat clothing in your life, be sure to check out ShopFarinellis.com, because the Fall/Winter '09 collection is on sale and going fast. We still have a few of the Before Dinner Shirt in Orange Plaid left too:

What do you guys think? Digging the fit on the chinos? Maybe you just had a bad day and need someone to vent to? Go ahead and let us know in a comment, we're very good listeners...

SNEAK PEEK: WOLF VS. GOAT CHINO COLORS

(posted by pai)

Ok... I'm not going to lie-the last blog post? Pretty embarrassing. We are going to take a second and apologize for telling you our website is going to be down and calling it a blog update. It's just not right. It's Thursday. Thursday is somehow after Wednesday, yet before Friday, and that deserves to be celebrated. At the very least, I think it deserves a better blog update than "hey our site's going to be down Monday."

Anyway, I'm here to give Thursday the justice it deserves, and if you read the title of this blog post (I'd be kind of surprised if you missed it since it's in all caps up at the top of this page), you know that I have a banger of an update for you today.

Our very own Mauro "Don't Call Me Mario" Farinelli has recently signed off on all five colors for this season's chinos! I don't know about you, but that makes me want to fist pump like I'm on the Jersey Shore. Here's a sneak peek at the five colorways:

ESPRESSO

JALAPENO

KHAKI

RED

CHARCOAL

Keep in mind my photography skills are amateur at best, and the colors are a little bit different in person, but at least you get an idea of what colors the WvG chinos will be in. Our favorite is the red colorway, which will be done in a smaller batch than any of the other colors. There will only be twenty-five total red chinos made, so if you want a pair, you'd better get in line!

The chinos are expected to go into production in February and we are hoping they will be in our hands, ready to sell, by the end of the same month. The best way to know when they will be released? Keep reading this blog, because I know everything, and when I choose to share some of my infinite knowledge with you, I usually do it via clever blog post.

Anyway, what colors are you guys digging the most? Feedback is always appreciated. You can either comment on the blog, on the Facebook post about this blog, or you can shoot us an e-mail at info@shopfarinellis.com We'd love to hear from you!

In the meantime, while you anxiously await the chinos to be made, you can go to ShopFarinellis.com and check out the Wolf vs. Goat Fall/Winter '09 collection, including the Dandy Work Pants, which are currently on sale:

WOLF VS. GOAT IN THE WASHINGTON POST

(posted by pai)

Holly Thomas is a smart gal. Not only is she smart, she's extremely stylish, and I'm not just saying that either (even though I've been known to just say a lot of things). Her name may sound familiar to you because she was selected to be on ours and Proper Topper's Best Dressed List: DC (click here to read her style profile on BrightestYoungThings.com), so when she writes an article for her Washington Post column on local designers to watch, you should probably read up and maybe send her some feedback thanking her.

We are pretty excited about Holly choosing our very own Mauro Farinelli and Heather Karpoff's Wolf vs. Goat line to feature in the article. I am especially grateful because it makes my blogging duties for today especially simple. That being said, I demand that you read this article:

"Creatives, close to home" by Holly Thomas, Washington Post

Did you read it? Good. Now you probably want to buy some Wolf vs. Goat stuff. Who can blame you? I'm telling you to do it, Holly Thomas is telling you to do it, what more persuasion do you need? Go to ShopFarinellis.com and pick up a pea coat, or, for those who want to add a little flair to their closet, a pair of Dandy Work Pants:

The best part is that all of our Wolf vs. Goat items are on sale right now, so don't miss out!

KEEP WARM!

(posted by pai)

The winds are howling and it's effing freezing in Arlington today. See for yourself:

I went ahead and circled the most disturbing part.

Readers, you may not know this about me, but I react to cold-weather the same way I would react to a tidal wave, or a fire-breathing dragon: I run for cover, usually while crying. Every time someone opens the door, the wind rushes in to slap me in the face like an angry ex-girlfriend, and like the aforementioned scenario, I have no idea what I've done wrong to deserve this punishment.

Naturally, I've gone into survival mode, and it got me thinking-what can I use in my surroundings to keep me warm? Luckily, I am at the right store, because we are up to our asses in warm gear here at Farinelli's. Here are a few pieces that might keep you warm if you're living in the area and you are insane enough to go out and walk around:

Michael J. Krell x Farinelli's Barn Coat Collaboration
$385

Probably the warmest coat we have in the store. Heavy wool outer shell with a quilted Japanese flannel interior-if you're not wearing it, you can just take it off and use it as a blanket. On days like today, I think it's a good idea to buy one in your size and one in 2 sizes up so you can wear them at the same time and turn yourself into a baked potato with legs.

Krane Mathias Mod Coat
On Sale: $660

I really can't say enough about Krane's jackets. Seriously, I think I've blogged about them four or five times. The quality is tops and the design is epic. You will not find someone wearing something similar to this thing. It's also warm as shit. Why? Because the inside is recycled Italian military wool blanket-and the Italians are very serious about keeping their servicemen warm. The rabbit fur-lined hood and heavy waxed cotton outer also help. This jacket is basically the coolest thing you can wear that isn't a suit of armor. It's on sale too. Why are you still reading this? I'm not a good writer, go click on the picture above and buy it.

Wolf vs. Goat Pea Coat in Navy
(also available in Maroon)
On Sale: $452

22 oz. Italian melton wool outer shell, 8 oz. denim twill interior. Put this jacket on and sweat out the winter season. Our very own Mauro Farinelli and Heather Karpoff designed this thing to have a modern slim fit as well, because really, what's the point of being warm if you don't look good? I'd rather freeze to death than wear an ill-fitting coat, and I'm sure you would too.

There you have it. The three reasons why I haven't frozen to death in this store and turned into a modern day Encino Man. Most of those jackets are still on sale until New Years for our holiday sale too, so don't stay cold, and don't drag your feet on these purchases!

JUST IN: WOLF VS. GOAT

(posted by pai)

It's a good day for fans of Wolf vs. Goat. Today, we got the rest of our pea coats in both maroon and navy, and we also got the Dandy Work Pant! Pretty exciting stuff here. The Dandy Work Pant is Mauro and Heather's homage to American workwear. The pant is heavily influenced by authentic workwear from decades past. From the black thread (traditionally used on workwear) to the hand-sewn horn buttons, to the 10 oz. cotton duck canvas fabric that softens up as you wear it, this pair of slacks has enough bells and whistles to make your head spin. Did we mention that they're selvedge and made on narrow looms? Because they're selvedge and made on narrow looms. When asked to describe the pants, Mauro did a lot of arm swinging and cursing to describe how good they are. If you've had the pleasure of meeting Mauro, you know how he gets when he gets giddy.

The pants are now available online, so hop on over to ShopFarinellis.com and pick up a pair!

Wolf vs. Goat Dandy Work Pant
$220

We also got our complete size runs of the Wolf vs. Goat Peacoats in maroon and navy. With a 22 oz. Italian melton wool shell, 8 oz. denim twill lining, and engraved horn buttons, these coats are sure to keep you warm and keep you looking good. Because really, what good is being warm if you don't look good? I mean if being warm is all you care about, you should just walk around in a Snuggie.

FASHION WASHINGTON

If you haven't already done so, go out and get a copy of the Holiday 2009 issue of Fashion Washington, the new seasonal magazine from Washington Post Media. Why? Well for one, it's a good magazine. For two, they love Farinelli's (and we love them). Last month they ran a story on the then-upcoming Wolf vs. Goat shirts, and this month they've run some great pictures of our very own Mauro Farinelli and Heather Karpoff (you may know her as The Goat), co-designers of Wolf vs. Goat. The two also got a picture posted on FW's website:

If you'd like to pick up a copy of the magazine but don't know where to get one, fear not, they are available in-store for the price of on the house, and really, who doesn't want something for free?

FRED PERRY TABLE TENNIS

(posted by pai)

As if you didn't already have a million great reasons to come into the store (me, my awesome personality, my charm, my good looks, just to name a few), we've recently added another new attraction to the store. Introducing the Fred Perry Table Tennis Set:

Fred Perry Table Tennis Set

Did you know that Fred Perry was a World Table Tennis Champion in 1929? Neither did we, until we got this awesome gift in the mail. Fred Perry gave us this gift as a memento for the 100 year anniversary of the Fred Perry brand, and this thing makes us wish everyone would give us gifts on their birthday. We made a makeshift table tennis table with the cart we had in the store and a couple of stools. If you are wondering why it's taking so long for me to respond to your e-mails, or why your package hasn't shipped yet, you are looking at the reason why. I'm sorry, but table tennis brings out the lion in me. It also brings out the... whatever this is... in Mauro:

The Incredible Hulk!
Wolf vs. Goat Before Dinner Shirt in Green Plaid

Here are some highlights from the games:

Clash of the titans...

Crotch chops in celebration!

Student vs. Teacher

Win or lose, Nathan's just trying to have fun.

The results of the game?

Mauro 23 - Payman 21
Mauro 21 - Nathan 11
Payman 21 - Nathan 15

If you are local or if you really love table tennis, make the trip over to the store and play us in a game of Fred Perry Cart/Table Tennis (seriously). Now I must go, Mauro thinks that he is the champion because he barely squeaked out a win against me. It's time for me to put him in his place!

EDIT: Just played two more games and I beat Mauro twice... In a row... I am the champion... And yes, I found it necessary to edit the blog and let you know that!

NOW ONLINE: WOLF VS. GOAT

Months and months of waiting are finally over! Mauro Farinelli's personal line, Wolf vs. Goat, is now available online at shopfarinellis.com! This is the first season EVER from Wolf vs. Goat and right now we have three of the five shirt styles we are getting online, including the red tattersall that we blogged about a while ago (click here to see that post).

What makes these shirts so rad? For starters, they're all in the "Before Dinner" cut, which means that they are going to be tailored and more fitted than your everyday shirt. The buttons are mother of pearl and every single one is hand-lathed to give your garment a personal touch. Did I mention they're all made in the U.S.A.??

Hop on over to shopfarinellis.com and pick up your shirt before they're all gone!
